LELAND CATE, JR., FUHS 1952

Cate, Jr., Leland L. Aug. 10, 1934 - Oct. 28, 2011 Our beloved Lee, 77, died October 28 in Whittier, CA. A professional printer, Lee was Director of Printing and Publications for the state of Alabama. With his son, Gregory, they owned and operated Oxford Impressions in Whittier. After retirement, he worked for Manheim Auto Auction, Anaheim. Born in Pasadena, CA, Lee was educated at Fullerton High School (1952) and Long Beach State College (1960), graduating with a degree in Business Administration. He served in the National Security Agency (NSA) as a courier attached to President Eisenhower. Married to Beverly McCoy in 1958, he is survived by his wife; son Greg (Melinda Ann); daughter Melinda Lee Gilbert; grandchildren Andrew and Stephanie Cate, Monica and Matthew Gilbert; sister, Carolyn Konrad. He was preceded in death by his father, Lee Sr., and his mother, Margaret. Lee was a lifetime member of the Boy Scouts of America. Proud to be one of four generations of eagle scouts in his immediate family; he was awarded the Silver Beaver for his commitment to scouting and community.
Devoted to his family and friends, Lee loved camping, fishing, hiking at Yosemite and telling stories to his grandchildren. He and Bev were Meals On Wheels volunteers.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 5, 2:30pm at McAulay & Wallace Mortuary, 902 N. Harbor Blvd., Fullerton.
