HUELL HOWSER

Pat Vierra Zima, FUHS '53, emailed the following message on Saturday, January 12, 2013.

I thought some of you might enjoy this. I have been getting their emails for two years. It's a great University. I love reading about all the great things they do. It’s a small University in Orange.

I met Mr. Moore at a business class that we were taking. He gave me a CD of their great choir, Chamber Orchestra, and Alumni Soloists. It’s called Some Enchanted Evening. Chapman University School Of Music.

He will take you on a great tour of the school if you ever have the time.

Watch the video on Huell Howser. He looks very thin.

To Pat from Chapman University:

Dear Pat,
Our featured Chapman news story this week is about the legendary Huell Howser, who died on Jan. 6, 2013. Last October, Huell hosted a Chapman reception at his Los Angeles apartment where we filmed him talking about creating the California's Gold Scholarship through a combination of cash gift and bequest. I am saddened that his passing came so soon, but I hope you will take a moment to watch the video and read the story at
www.chapman.edu/legacy-stories. It's truly inspiring. Huell Howser wanted his gift to motivate others to make similar gifts, so contact me at (714) 516-4590 or dmoore@chapman.edu to learn about including Chapman in your estate plans. Finally, Chapman will host an amazing celebration of California's Gold the afternoon of Friday, Feb. 8. Mark your calendar now and look for details in a future edition of this e-newsletter.

CHAPMAN NEWS

Remembering Huell Howser

Chapman University joined with others across the Golden State in mourning the passing of California television icon Huell Howser, who died on Jan. 6 at age 67. In his final years, Howser donated his life’s work to Chapman, including an archive of all his "California’s Gold" TV episodes, which the university has digitized, according to his wishes, and placed online for free public viewing. "Huell Howser was a beloved California icon, a true original and a truly good man," said Chapman University President James L. Doti. "It has been a real privilege in these past few years to become his friend and to share in his immense enthusiasm for life and for everything around him. He loved California so very much, and above all he loved people: their life stories, their interests, their passions. And, of course, people adored him with equal intensity."
