LATEST NEWS FROM FLO SPANGENBERG ON 12/10 ABOUT LOCATION OF MEMORIAL:
Diana just called. Viewing for Jerry will be from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at McAulay & Wallace, 902 N. Harbor Blvd, Fullerton, Thursday, December 10th and Friday December 11th. Saturday, December 12th at 1:00 PM there will be a short, about 20 minutes, graveside service at Loma Vista Memorial Park 701 E Bastenchury Rd., Fullerton. She emphasized that this is for family and close friends. There will be a gathering for Jerry at the Yorba Linda Community Center which is located at the corner of Imperial Hwy and Casa Loma Avenue in Yorba Linda at 2:00 PM but she has the hall at 1:00 PM if you get there earlier than 2:00 PM. There will be bag piper at the graveside service and at the Community Center. Yorba Linda Community Center, 4501 Casa Loma Ave., Yorba Linda. (714) 961-7181.

So sorry to tell you this news. I got the note below from his good friend, Wes Warden, this morning.

Hi Sherry: Thanks for the info on Jerry. I don't know if you have heard, Jerry died this morning about 6;00 AM. The services are next Saturday 11:00 AM at McAuley-Wallace. This is the latest I've heard.

This is an update on Jerry's final funeral arrangements. There will be a public viewing at the McAulay & Wallace Mortuary, 902 N.Harbor Blvd., Fullerton, from 4:00pm to 8:00pm on Thursday & Friday December 10th & 11th.

Final arrangements for the memorial service are pending. The mortuary hopes to have the final arrangements in place by Tuesday. I will send an update as soon as possible.

Many of you know Jerry Christie (class of 1955). He passed away this last weekend. Following is the article in the paper. There is a viewing at McAulay & Wallace Mortuary on Thursday and Friday from 4 PM to 8 PM. There will be a celebration of his life at the Yorba Linda Community Center on Imperial and Casa Loma Avenue (4501 Casa Loma Avenue, Yorba Linda, CA 92886-3315). It will be this Saturday, December 12th at 2:00 PM. The graveside service will be private.

Former Fullerton mayor Jerry Christie dies

FULLERTON – Jerry Christie, who was the youngest mayor in the history of the city, died Saturday at St. Jude Medical Center after suffering three heart attacks in as many days. He was 72.
Christie served the city as mayor from 1970 to 1972, and continued to hold the title of the youngest elected to the post.
A viewing is set for 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday and Friday at McAulay & Wallace Mortuary, 902 N. Harbor Blvd. Memorial and graveside services are pending. For information, call the mortuary at 714-525-4721.
Born in Fullerton, Christie graduated from Fullerton Union High School Class of '55 before receiving his bachelor's degree from UC Berkeley and his master's and doctorate degrees from the USC School of Business.
For 33 years, he was the senior vice president of Fullerton Community Bank.
"He continued to host all the bank alumni (for a reunion)," bank CEO Tom Meyer said Monday. "Jerry valued his relationships and stayed connected with them. To be affiliated with Jerry was great."
Meyer also recounted how Christie invited his Berkeley fraternity buddies to go on a reunion cruise at his expense on his 60th birthday.
Throughout his life in Fullerton, Christie was active in various organizations. He was president of the Fullerton Chamber of Commerce and Cal State Fullerton Friends of the College, Chamber Man of the Year, chairman of the Ford Foundation Medical School Project and Fullerton City Library Bond Authority.
He was also a board member of the Fullerton College Hornet Football Foundation, Titan Athletic Foundation, Fullerton Civic Light Opera Foundation and the Fullerton Savings & Loan Association.
He is survived by several cousins and his longtime friend, Diana Hunt.
In lieu of flowers, Christie told friends he wanted donations to be sent to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Fullerton or the Fullerton Public Library.

Christie, Jerry F., age 72, died December 5, 2009. He was born May 4, 1937 in Fullerton and was very charitable and active in community affairs during his entire life. Some of his business and community affiliations were: Mayor and Councilman of the city of Fullerton, President of Fullerton Chamber of Commerce, President of Cal State Fullerton Friends of the College, Chairman of Ford Foundation Medical School Project, Chairman and Board member of Fullerton Savings and Loan Association, Board Member of the Fullerton College Hornet Football Foundation and Titan Athletic Foundation, and 50 year member of the Fullerton Elks Lodge and Delta Tau Delta Fraternity.
He graduated from Fullerton Union High School class of '55 and is on the Wall of Fame. He received his Associates Degree from Fullerton College and his BBA from UC Berkeley and his MBA, PhD from USC.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10th and Friday, Dec. 11th at McAulay & Wallace Fullerton Mortuary. Private interment will be held Saturday Dec. 12th and a public memorial service will also be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Yorba Linda Community Center, located at the intersection of Imperial Highway and Casa Loma Ave., in Yorba Linda.
He is survived by his long time companion Diana Hunt and her children and grandchildren. In Lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the Fullerton Boys and Girls Club or the Fullerton Public Library. Jerry will forever be in our hearts and he will be deeply missed.
