TOM EADINGTON
Tom was born on August 16, 1940, to Thomas James Eadington & Elizabeth Bastanchury Eadington in Fullerton. Young Thomas went to school at St. Mary's in Fullerton. From St. Mary's, Tom matriculated at Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana where he graduated in 1958. He was much admired at Mater Dei where he excelled at football, track and student government. He was on the first Monarch championship football team and held the individual county record in the 440 yard dash. Further he was elected class President. Young Thomas then competed for and won a Jesuit scholarship by examination which he took to the University of San Francisco. At USF he continued his work in politics and was a cadet with US Army reserve officer. He graduated with high honors in Quantitative Economics and received his officer commission in the US Army, 1st Cavalry Division as a nuclear artillery battery commander. Tom spent the next three years in Korea and stateside as a battery commander, Lieutenant First Class. Tom received his honorable discharge in December 1965 where he went into the family business which his grandfather started in 1917 - The Eadington Fruit Company. Tom would become a fourth generation Californian rancher in which he took much pride. Tom worked his way up the organization that by his fifth year in the firm he became Vice President and was in charge of one the largest privately held citrus business in the state of California. He became President of Eadington Fruit Company in 1983 and was elected to various board of directors including Board of Sunkist Growers the largest citrus firm in the United States. Tom remained a key board member at Sunkist for over seven years. After his career in farming, Tom became an educator helping to teach young adults from high-risk backgrounds for the County of Orange. Tom loved to speak about politics and was an avid reader of the classics and modern literature. He enjoyed geography, history, economics and all works of fiction. He would never turn way from a vigorous debate and was a master rhetorician where he displayed his considerable wit and sardonic humor. He was also an excellent gardener and always kept a flourishing garden of mixed vegetables and fruits. Tom's greatest achievements derived from his union with Linda Cromwell Eadington, of Whittier, whom he wedded on September 2, 1967. From this marriage of 38 years, they had three children; two daughters, Nicolle, 27, of Brentwood, California & Mia, 37 of Corona del Mar, California; and a son, Thomas James, 36 of San Juan Capistrano, California. Tom & Linda stayed married together until his death on Feb. 19, 2006. Arrangements by McAulay & Wallace Mortuary, Fullerton (714)525-4721.
