Hi Connie,

You can be proud of your great efforts. I heard many positive comments that this was the best Pow Wow they have ever attended. I have only been to three of them but the food was 100% better than before. It seemed to be better organized also, so there was no long line to stand in. Every year the sound system does not reach the back of the room so those sitting near the back were not able to hear most of what was said on the stand.

Our class seemed to be better attended than ever before and everyone enjoyed each others company.

I wish I had looked closer over the list of those attending before the event. There were several individuals in other classes that I would have tried harder to see and talk with. My loss.

My reason for writing is to thank you for your efforts and hope you will pass on to the others my appreciation for their outstanding effort. It is a job most people do not realize how time consuming it is. You all deserve a rest and a gold star.

I thought the beef was rather bland and a little too much on the tough side but the salmon was very good and the asparagus was cooked to perfection. I am very fond of lightly steamed vegetables. The cheese cake and carrot cake were very good; I just wish I had room for more after the big meal but alas, I didn’t need the sweets anyway. I liked the way the service personal selected a few tables at a time to get up and get in line for the meal; this prevented long lines at the food tables and seemed to help things move along rather smoothly. It would have been nice if the Tea was offered when we arrived instead of after the program started; also, my sister had a yearning for Coke, but at $3.00 a glass at the bar, she was put off from buying it.

This thing just keeps getting better, and is acquiring a life of its own. I have attended every one so far, and to see it grow from some 50-60 folks to this affair is great. My wife is really jealous! She said it is remarkable to see the closeness and affection among those of us fortunate enough to have attended FUHS, and felt it was a relatively unique and precious thing that we should all appreciate.

I got a lot of comments, all positive, about our singing the alma mater. Having the words in the program was a plus. And yes, I, and I'm sure others, would love to help out perpetuating that tradition.

Here's a comment from Louise Shamblen '57 via email:

Pow Wow was really great this year. I think because there were less microphone announcements everyone got to talk more and the noise level didn't seem as high as last year, even with the increase in people. Everyone did a wonderful job. Louise Phelps Shamblen '57

Sharon McConnell (class rep for '50) sent this message:

Only comment I have - It was great!!We could have used one more person at our table (the name tag table) as it got pretty hectic for a while. You need one person to cross off name on list another to look for the name tags and that is where we need two people. I hope people will send their new address and e-mails so they can be on the master list. I hate sending e--mails out and then they are returned.
Singing the Alma Mater is fine but who ever is in charge next year, has to remember to keep the remarks short and to the point as most people are not even listening as they came to talk with friends.

From Gordon Walker (Class rep for '37)

Although only four of us from the class of 37 were able to attend, we certainly appreciated the tremendous amount of effort that was put into the program. We thoroughly enjoyed the program.

Having four buffet lines help to serve that many people without too much delay. We thought the food was good.

We appreciated the programs that were handed out to each of us. That must have been a last minute task.

This is from an email from Harold Horn:

The day was really great.
It would have been interesting to see how many attending had parents
that were grads and how many have children that were also grads. The most positive is no long speeches with lots of time to visit and
circulate. But acknowledging the old teachers and the committee is good.

Great job. All of you that worked on the PowWow did a very good job.
Thanks, see you next year.

And here's a message from the other co-rep for the class of '38:

It is great to always sing the Alma Mater.
How about inviting the current Principal and perhaps a few others to be guests and to share a few words. A slightly longer program might be considered: perhaps recognition landmark classes.
Thank you for all your hard work. It was great to be present for the Pow Wow!
