MARY LOU PRIOR HOBBS, FUHS '62

Mikie Johnson (class rep for '58) just sent me the following message:

Gary Hobbs class of '58. Mary Lou (Prior) Hobbs, FUHS class of '62

Pete just got off the phone with Gary. Mary Lou passed away yesterday afternoon. She was treated for nearly a year and a half for throat cancer (radiation, chemo, surgery, chemo). She developed a blood infection from the chemo that literally just shut down most of her organs. There will be no service...at least for the time being. The family is discussing where to scatter her ashes. There may be a celebration of life sometime later. Gary asked for no phone calls at this time.

Mikie sent me this message he received from one of the children giving the date and location of a celebration of life on March 27, 2010:

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that we share the passing of Mary Lou Hobbs on March 16th. As many of you know, she had been undergoing chemotherapy treatment for cancer of the throat. Unfortunately, she developed a severe infection associated with her feeding tube and was not able to fight it off. It all happened very suddenly. We had no chance to say goodbye and miss her dearly, as will all those whose lives she touched. There will be no memorial service in accordance with her wishes. However, we are planning a celebration of her life on Saturday, March 27th in Temecula, CA. We hope that you'll be able to join us in remembering a wonderful wife, mother, aunt, and friend. For those of you in Mexico who are not able to join us, we will hold a similar wake in Los Barilles sometime soon.

Date: 27th March, 2010
Time: 3:00
Location: (Connie says: When you RSVP, get the house address.)
Temecula, CA 92595
Please RSVP to Teri at terilhobbs@msn.com by March 21st. We know we've missed several people and would appreciate your sharing this message and invitation with anyone you feel appropriate.

For those interested, dad will be keeping the garymarylou@juno.com email address and requests donations to the American Cancer Society(www.cancer.org) in lieu of flowers.

WAYNE DANIELS, FUHS TEACHER

Rhys Cogswell, 20 months old, takes a walk through the yard of the Wayne "Tulip Man" Daniels, 73, at 688 N. Woods Avenue in Fullerton. Cogswell was visiting the tremendous display of tulips and other bulb flowers with his grandmother, Pat Trotter of Fullerton. Each year around Thanksgiving, Daniels plants thousands of tulips and other bulbs in his yard. He said this year's rains and cold snap have made his yard especially proliferate.

Mr. Daniels was a GREAT teacher at Fullerton High School in the 1980's and 1990's. As much as we (his students) appreciated him then, I'm sure his neighbors are enjoying the bouquet. I hope he is now retired and enjoying his garden as much as he did the classroom.
