DOROTHY SHOOK PICQUELLE FUHS 1937

Dorothy Shook Picquelle, 94, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 7. She grew up in Yorba Linda, graduated from Fullerton Union High School (as did her mother and two children), studied nursing at Fullerton College, married in 1946, and spent most of her adult life in Fullerton.
Dorothy had an irrepressible sense of humor and a kindhearted yet feisty nature. She shared an easy smile and friendly word with everyone she met. Dorothy loved to garden, sew, cook, talk, laugh, and ask tons of questions. She loved her family and was a loyal and steadfast friend of many. Dorothy was the quintessential mother; she raised her two children and mothered many of their friends.
After her children were grown, she babysat and became a loving member of a few other lucky families. She also mothered a menagerie of pets, including dogs, cats, and tortoises (raising many of them from eggs). Dorothy lived her life in service to others. She nursed an invalid husband for many years before his passing in 1971, and tended to her mother for years after that.
She was a long-term volunteer with Caring Companions and with FISH of Fullerton, where she was a dispatcher and dispatcher trainer. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd Shook and Thelma Beebower, her brothers, Allen Shook and Dwight Shook, sister-in-law Frances Shook, and husband, Willard Picquelle. She is survived by her son Carey Picquelle of Fullerton, daughter Susan Picquelle and son-in-law Jim Meador of Seattle, sister-in-law Mary Shook of Sherman Oaks, many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, and a backyard full of tortoises and bromeliads.
In lieu of flowers, gifts are suggested to FISH of Fullerton, PO Box 6334, Fullerton, CA 92834. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 1st, 2 pm, at Memory Garden Memorial Park in Brea.
Given Dorothy's keen sense of humor, there is no doubt she is chuckling that her funeral is on April Fool's Day.

JERRY PUTMAN, FUHS '52

From Lois Putman Givens on March 16, 2014:

(Jerry Putman. FUHS ’52, is Lois’ cousin.)

Sent an e-mail asking LaVonne how Jerry was and this was her reply.
Please share with the FUHS alumni.
Lois Putman Givens, FUHS ‘53

LaVonne Foss Putman, FUHS ’53, answered:

So glad to hear from you.  Jerry has been in and out of the hospital since Christmas and he went to be with our Lord last Wednesday morning. All our kids were here, the boys took turns staying with him at night.  Called Harold, he seemed to be fine, Keith talked to him.  Still hard to think he is gone.  Don't know exactly when the memorial will be.  More later.

LaVonne

Lois asked me to add the following message:

Dear Lois,
We are having a celebration of his life tomorrow evening at our local Country Club. But his formal memorial won't be until June 7th, when all the kids and their families can be here.  We will have that at the church and his ashes will be placed at the church columbarium. Seems like a long time, but we need the family to reconvene. They were all here for a couple weeks with him before and when he died, but had to return to their homes.

I have heard from several of his class mates and mine already, I truly thank them, and you, for your thoughts and prayers. He was a good husband, father, and grandfather; he certainly will be missed, but our confidence is that he is now seeing the glory of heaven.
Love,
LaVonne

(From Connie: LaVonne sent her address & e-mail address should someone
wish to send the family a condolence. Email Lois or me for LaVonne’s contact information as I don’t want to put it on the blog.)

JIM TEN EYCK, FUHS 1958

Message forwarded from Mike Johnson, class rep for FUHS 1958:

From Aileen (Mc Cartney) Ten Eyck, FUHS 1958

Dear Family and Friends,

It is with great sadness that I write to inform you that my husband and best friend, Jim Ten Eyck, peacefully passed away today, March 11, 2014 at 7:18 a.m. He was being lovingly cared for in hospice and was lovingly surrounded by family. We are in the process of planning a celebration of Jim’s life, and will let you know when it will take place.

In the meantime, Jim’s wishes are that we not mourn, but remember him with love, laughter and hugs.

Lovingly,

Aileen Ten Eyck

FROM TOM SHOCKLEY FUHS 1952, (about not attending the luncheon this year)

We made reservations, but are un-able to attend in person, in spirit, yes.

Tom Shockley (cl of ‘52) and Akiko, my love & my wife.

 To Tom from Connie:

Is it ok for me to forward your message to the '52 class rep (Jim Barker)to share with your class?

 Aloha Connie

Yes, send to Jim and at 79 I think I am doing OK!! Life is still fun, our class motto?  “Life is a song”

Mahalo

Tom

From Connie to Tom:

Do you want me to put your message on my blog so that other classes can see it and your picture too? If so, do you want to add more info?

Aloha Connie (use this if you like)

My wife Akiko and I live in a tropical forest on the slope of Hualalai (8’271), our home is at 4’500 ft. Hualalai is one of the 3 active volcanos on Hawaii Island. We are 20 min. from Kailua Kona and the ocean.

Akiko is from Sapporo, Japan and moved to Hawaii in 1970. We met 2 years ago at our local fitness club and were married 8/20/13 in our local church. Our family consists of 3 large rowdy dogs. 3 cats & 1 tame wild goat.  (The real reason we are not at the Pow Wow - finding a pet care giver is a problem.)

 Aloha

Tom and Akiko

FUHS ALUMNI WEBSITE THAT CONNECTS ALUMNI

From Sharon (Smith) Gibson (class rep for FUHS 1961

To Connie for all alumni

I have created a new Website that I hope will be used by all FUHS classes. I have populated my class on it and have made the standing committee members administrators and hope that they will add their classmates data, but anyone can sign up. Please take a look and do join it. It is very easy to use and easy to send emails to other classmates who have joined. For me, it makes sending bulk messages to my class (or to everyone on the site) so much easier.

Give it a look-see and tell me what you think.

Sharon

(Anyone who wants to contact Sharon Gibson with a comment or question, can find her name in the class of '61 on her database and send her an email from there or email me: CVANHORN@PACBELL.NET

If a class rep uploads your name, it doesn’t become "active" until you click on your name and join with a password. However, Sharon can email everyone there who has an email on the class list so it helps to get Pow Wow news out.)
More from Sharon:
Anyone can find me on the website, Connie, by clicking on "Classmate Profiles" and then click "search" at the top of the page and type in Sharon or Sharon Smith or Sharon Gibson. My name will pop up with every choice. Or they could click on 1961 and find me on that list. Clicking on my name will take you to my profile page and under the photo it says, "send Sharon an email." It's really easy to use.
Thanks for the info that you put on your blog. I appreciate any effort to get the word out.
Sharon
