JAY KEAR, FUHS 1955

(I can't get the line spacing to work. Please excuse the difficulty in reading this message.) Connie Please pass the following information to FUHS Alumni. Jay Kear Class of 1955, Passed on, August 22, 2012. Jay was in great condition enjoying life when two years ago, was diagnosed with a brain tumor. As was his nature, Jay took the high ground and was determined to beat this problem. Unfortunately the medicines that helped defeat the tumor proved to be toxic. I was fortunate to see Jay on August 15 on my trip to Calif and said goodby to him that day. There are many classmates of Jay that remember him and will be sadden by his passing. This is the messaged received today from his Wife Lauren Jay passed away Wednesday, September 22 at 11:15 pm after a brave and courageous two year battle. He won his battle with brain cancer, only to become debilitated by the toxicity of the drug treatment. It was heartbreaking. Throughout the entire ordeal, Jay remained his heroic self. He was an inspiration to us all. Please join the family and me as we celebrate the life of this magnificent man. Memorial services will be held: Friday, September 28, 2012, 11:00 am Saint Andrews Presbyterian Church 600 Saint Andrews Road Newport Beach, CA 92663 The family and I will be hosting a luncheon immediately following the service. If any of you would like to share a story or remembrance of Jay, please let me know. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to: The Jay Kear Brain Cancer Fund c/o Graig Easton CHOC Children’s Foundation 455 South Main Orange, CA 92868 Checks should be made out to CHOC CHILDREN’S FOUNDATION, with Jay Kear in the memo line. Our family will direct the use of those funds in support of families whose children are battling brain cancer. Thank you for your love and support. It carried Jay and the rest of the family through some very dark days. To our family, you became the very physical expression of the outstretched arms of God. We look forward to seeing you on September 28th. Please forward this e-mail to anyone else who may be interested, as Jay was loved by many. CONNIE IN HOSPITAL LAST WEEK

I had a TIA (a tiny stroke-like brain bleed that left me incapacitated for 15 minutes) on August 16 that put me in the hospital for a week (ugg)and gave me a couple more seizeurs (but no more brain damage that we know). I will be having more tests in the next few weeks to try to determine how to prevent a full stroke (more ugg). The doctors seem to have figured out some medicine that will prevent more seizeurs in the meantime.

FULLERTON OBSERVER HOT LINK

Diane Oestreich, FUHS ’64, sent this information:

On Sunday, July 8, I was invited to be the guest speaker for the annual meeting of Fullerton Heritage, a volunteer organization “dedicated to preserving Fullerton's past for the future.” I was surprised and honored at that event to be presented with the Fullerton Heritage 2012 Community Education Award “for researching and writing the definitive history of historic Fullerton High School.” As one of our former principals used to say, FUHS is the flagship school of the community, and it was my privilege to share the school’s story in the book and in my slide presentation for Fullerton Heritage.

I hope you have availed yourself of the opportunity to purchase a copy of The History of Fullerton Union High School 1893—2011, but in case you missed out, you may purchase one for $26 from my website:
http://www.fullertonhshistory.com
or
send a check to my PO box:

Copies are also available at Fullerton Hardware on Commonwealth and from Amazon.com.
If you have read the book, I would enjoy hearing from you. I have received some wonderful correspondences related to the book, but if you haven’t sent me your thoughts, please do:

(or send a note to me at my PO box)

Class of 1964

There was an article in the August Fullerton Observer about all the awards given that day. I am in a photo with two others. It seems to be one pdf file, but you could put the link in for The Observer. It's on page 6. http://www.fullertonobserver.com/

I'd be happy for anything you could post. I sold a few copies as a result of sending out the email on Monday. I want to get the book into as many alumni hands as possible. It's actually pretty amazing for a public high school's history to be in book form.
Thanks, Connie

MESSAGE FROM MIKE JOHNSON TO EARL

Mike Johnson, FUHS ’58, has asked me to post the following message:

Dear Earl and family,
Please accept our heartfelt condolences over you and your family's loss. Carole has fought many battles these past few years and has won many of them. We must know she is in a better place now, she has gone home.
It is always hard to lose a loved one. You must remember all the good times and press on in your everyday life.
These words are taken from what Gary and I were taught growing up in Fullerton, they are good words to remember:
DEATH. An illusion, the lie of life in matter; the unreal and untrue; the opposite of Life.
Matter has no life, hence it has no real existence. Mind is immortal. The flesh, warring against Spirit; that which frets itself free from one belief only to be fettered by another, until every belief of life where Life is not yields to eternal Life. Any material evidence of death is false, for it contradicts the spiritual facts of being.
Question. — What is Life?
Eternity of Life
Answer. — Life is divine Principle, Mind, Soul, Spirit. Life is without beginning and without end. Eternity, not time, expresses the thought of Life, and time is no part of eternity. One ceases in proportion as the other is recognized. Time is finite; eternity is forever infinite. Life is neither in nor of matter. What is termed matter is unknown to Spirit, which includes in itself all substance and is Life eternal. Matter is a human concept. Life is divine Mind. Life is not limited. Death and finiteness are unknown to Life. If Life ever had a beginning, it would also have an ending.
All the best to you and yours during your time of sorrow and loss.
In Sympathy,
Mike and Clare Johnson
