WHY ARE THESE PEOPLE SMILING?

The 2006 Pow Wow committee members from the class of '53 --Lois (Putman) Givens, Treasurer, Pat (Vierra) Mitchell, Chairman, and Connie (Stafford) Van Horn, Whatever --are happy that the Pow Wow was enjoyed by so many people, but they are mostly happy that it's over. Thank you, Barney Blashill (class of '49), Phyl (Bolinger) Munn (class of '49) and all of the class representatives, for your help.

(We really do recommend that more people divvy up the chores. Connie will help with future name tags and with the blog. Barney Blashill and Phyl Munn always help.)

6 FOOT SENIOR PICTURE ON DISPLAY AT POW WOW 2006 BY CLASS OF ‘53

The class of ’53 once again displayed the 6 foot long senior class picture taken in May of 1953. Its first appearance was at the 50th reunion in 2003. Some classmates are yet to be identified.
The original picture was saved for 50 years to become our class treasure by another of our class treasures- Pat Vierra Zima.

It is on the internet (in sections) at http://cvanhorn.homestead.com/FUHSSeniorPicWithNames.html

Other classes might want to preserve their picture (the sooner the better). First find the best-preserved copy that you can and then email Connie for information on where to go to get it reproduced.

Why Do the FUHS Alums Share Such a Bond?

Why do the FUHS alums share such a bond as the participation at the Pow Wow All-Alumni luncheons indicate?
The reporter who wrote the Pow Wow Luncheon story for the Fullerton paper and interviewed Pat Zima and me was trying to get to the reason for the camaraderie that our alumni share. I was sure stumped when she asked me although I brought up the sensational fun and closeness that we all shared at those football games. Pat remembered the Pow Wow parade with each class striving to have the best float.
What do you think is the reason?

2006 POW WOW VOLUNTEERS GET GIFT FROM BOB OLLAR ‘51

Bob Ollar ’51 and his wife, the former Dorothy (Lois Martin) Thomas also '51, showed their appreciation to the 2006 Pow Wow volunteers by giving them hand-crafted Indian-head candles. Those who received them felt honored to be given this beautifully-rendered school symbol.

The Ollars started this tradition last year, and those who haven’t received one yet hope that they continue so that they might earn one of these coveted prizes.

The candles take much wax and even more labor to mold and paint. Bob and his wife work all year on creating these candles. When someone asked him if he had considered selling them, Bob said the effort involved would make them too expensive- that these were a labor of love.

They are a fitting tribute for Pow Wow volunteers who also perform a labor of love.
